My Disney Journey

This blog was a journey of my application to Walt Disney World's Cultural Representative Program, from sorting out my CV through all the interviews to a year of having a mouse for a boss! Now, watch as I try to get back to my second home.

My first outing to WDW! November 3, 2010

This evening has been pretty fun really!
The new UKers all met up and hopped on the bus to Down Town Disney. The plan was to go to the talent show thing that housing had organised for 6pm, then head off to find something to eat after that. Generally hang out and have some fun and get to know each other some more. We got to Down Town a little earlier than necessary, so we browsed around the shops for a bit. Now, I’ve never been to Florida before now, so I’ve never seen any of the Walt Disney World Resort. Down Town is just AMAZING!!! The main Disney store is massive! It has so much stuff, just about everything Disney you could ever ask for! And then, as you walk round Down Town (The House of Blues was at the far end, so I got to see pretty much all of it!) there’s so many more amazing shops. There’s a lego store! I have a massive passion for lego, and there’s not many lego stores in the UK, so it was really great to finally get to see an actual lego store; the pick-a-brick wall is so cool! There’s also a Harley shop! I had NO idea there was a Harley dealership in the middle of Disney World! That was such a surprise to me when I rounded the corner to see the Harley logo shining down on me. I was like a kid in a candy store! There’s so much stuff there, and I’d love to have a lot more time and just go browsing everything. There’s even a Cirque de Soleil, which I will most certainly be going to see at some point.
Anyway, we got to the House of Blues, got let in to the talent show at about 6:30, which then started at about 7. By the time it got to 8pm less than half the acts had performed, and we were getting hungry. Much as I would have loved to stay and see the rest of them, I wasn’t overly fussed, so we headed back through Down Town to find somewhere to eat. Eventually we chose T-Rex.
T-Rex is a dinasaur themed restaurant, as you can probably guess, and it’s massive! There’s various different areas, and we were seated in the “Ice age” bit. It was very blue, and decorated as if we were inside a glacier. There was even a T-Rex skeleton on the wall! Every now and again, there was a “meteor shower” and the whole place would flash red and glowy! It was really bizarre, but kinda awesome! The food was pretty good, I had a 3-colour pasta tortelloni, which was really yummy, but I couldn’t eat it all, so I have a doggy bag sat beside me. 😀 Lunch for tomorrow is sorted! And that was the end of my first Disney restaurant eating experience!
I’d like to try (although I expect to fail), while I’m here for the whole year, to eat at every single restaurant within the Disney Resort. There’s a page at the top of my blog which will link to a full list, and I will check each one off as I visit it, with a little link to the blog post in which it’s mentioned (as I’m sure I will mention it!) I’ve not yet worked out how many restaurants there are, or if this task is even do-able, but I’m going to try a lot of different cuisines and have a lot of fun trying!
Back to the evening though… after we’d finished eating we all walked over to a place called The Crossroads. There were a couple of UK cast members (19th Oct starters) who had eaten over there and were now sat drinking, so we went over to join them. It was really cool to meet some more people who’d been here for a little while and hear about the fun they’ve been having. I’m going to meet so many people over the next couple of weeks, I’m sure I’m going to forget everyones names, but we’ll see!
After that it was pretty much back to the Commons, then back to bed. I’ve moved my bed and things around a little bit, so my bedside table is now next to my head (yay!); my roommate helped me move things, and she now has hers next to her head too, so it’s worked out pretty well. Does mean my bed is slap-bang in the middle of the room though! Should be fine, I’m sure. I think I’m going to try and get a little bed-side lamp at some point though, so I can get up in the morning and not wake my room mate if she doesn’t have to be up as early.
That’s pretty much all for now. Tomorrow involves more meetings, probably more paperwork, and US Immigration scaring us all about being sent out of the country and never being allowed to come back! What fun!!! (Sarcasm not intended! :P)
Night night to everyone, and I’ll catch you later!
