My Disney Journey

This blog was a journey of my application to Walt Disney World's Cultural Representative Program, from sorting out my CV through all the interviews to a year of having a mouse for a boss! Now, watch as I try to get back to my second home.

Traditions & My First Park Visit November 7, 2010

So today we had Traditions. Traditions is the first class that all new Cast Members have to introduce them to the Walt Disney Company, it’s history, it’s heritage, and it’s traditions! It was actually a really fun (if quite long) day, but Kyle and Cameron (the two “teachers”) were really funny and nice and made even the boring parts fun! We had a small tour of Magic Kingdom (we were meant to be looking out for Disney’s Core Values – Safety, Courtesy, Show & Efficiency) including the Utilidors (underground, backstage corridors) which was amazing. We saw the start of the lunch-time parade, and Cinderella’s Castle is gorgeous!!!

I even won two little figurines, a Mickey and a Goofy, for answering a couple of questions correctly! Wish I’d gotten a Minnie, but I will treasure them none-the-less!!! Oh, and Mickey himself came to visit (interrupting Cameron right in the middle of his Courtesy talk!), and he wished us all luck and brought the box with our Cast IDs in 😀 It was wrapped up like a little present, which was cool – I guess they are Mickey’s present to us, as they do give us the amazing discounts and free park entry!

Of Course, the small amount of time we spent in Magic Kingdom wasn’t really enough (and we were all in suits, so looked kinda out of place!), so after Traditions… having received our Cast IDs and Name Tags… the 7 of us Brits headed back to Magic Kingdom for some fun!!!

It was amazing!!!

I have a 1st Visit badge too, which is really cool (if a little sad). I’m going to treasure it, at least for a while! We didn’t actually go on many rides, although we got to see Wishes and the night-time parade. The park was quite busy, and there was a bit of a chill to the air (strange for Florida, I know!), but I still had a great time. There’s so much I want to go back and see, probably going to look at each section of the park little bit by little bit. I do have a whole year after all!

We ate at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, which although technically quick-service, will now be added to my list. 😀 It was really tasty, just a basic burger and chips.

Anyway, for now I’m going to head to bed. I have more training tomorrow morning, then the afternoon off, and Epcot Discovery day on Monday, all day. At least the clocks go back tonight, so I get an extra hour of sleep! Yippie!! 😀

Catch you all later,
and remember – a dream is a wish your heart makes!
